The TCRWP would like to congratulate The Academy of Talented Scholars (TAOTS) P.S 682, which was selected as a National Blue Ribbon School by the US Department of Education this year. TAOTS was one of 335 schools nationwide recognized for overall academic excellence and progress in closing the achievement gap.
TAOTS, located in Besonhurst, has worked with the Project since 2011.The school, founded in 2009, has an ASD Nest Program and a Schoolwide Enrichment Model, where students study electives of their own choosing. TAOTS was also named a Rewards School for New York State for 2015-2016.
The National Blue Ribbon School Award was created in 1982 in order to bring attention to some of the best schools in the nation and to facilitate sharing of best practices among schools. From Chancellor Fariña’s newsletter regarding Blue Ribbon winners in New York City,”This is an amazing accomplishment and shows what students can achieve when we build strong, safe, welcoming communities that put teaching and learning first.”
TAOTS and the other schools that received the Blue Ribbon distinction for 2015 were honored this week at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C..
