The Teachers College Reading and Writing Project (TCRWP) is pleased to acknowledge two of the five New York City elementary schools named as 2019 National Blue Ribbon recipients.
Hellenic Classical Charter School , PS 59 Beekman Hill International School , P.S. 101Q The School In The Gardens, P.S. 40 Augustus Saint-Gaudens Elementary School were among 332 schools recognized nationally by U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos. All the schools were listed under the Exemplary High Performing Schools category for their high performance on state and nationally normed assessments.
Betsy Rosa says it best when she said “”I’m happy to congratulate the 19 New York schools being honored this year as National Blue Ribbon Schools,” Board of Regents Chancellor Betty A. Rosa said. “The administrators and teachers from these schools are helping their students excel and to achieve the Board of Regents’ priority of fostering equity for all our children by closing achievement gaps.”
“The schools being recognized today have achieved a standard of excellence through hard work and dedication that is rightfully being honored,” Interim State Education Commissioner Beth Berlin said. “Through perseverance to provide welcoming environments for all students, these schools show how increasing opportunities opens the door to even greater achievement.”
In their official Blue Ribbon application, principals at both schools acknowledged the importance of their ongoing relationship with TCRWP.
The Project commends the strong commitment to literacy at both schools, and the commitment of the administrators, teachers, students, parents, and community to high-quality instruction.
