Each specialist has a defined area of expertise and provides intellectual leadership in that distinct area. Some work on performance assessments, on data, on curriculum, on research.

Kelly Boland Hohne

Boland Hohne, Kelly

Kelly Boland Hohne, Writer in Residence and Senior Research Associate at the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project, earned her Ed.D. in Curriculum and Teaching from Teachers College while working at the Project. Kelly is the author of several units of study for reading and writing, among them, Changing the World: Persuasive Speeches, Petitions and Editorials and Argument and Advocacy: Researching Debatable Issues. In all of her work, Kelly draws on her experience as a classroom teacher at PS 6, a TCRWP mentor school.

Katie Clements

Clements, Katie

Katie Clements, Senior Research Associate and Lead Staff Developer, received her MA in Science Education from Teachers College, Columbia University and taught at PS 321, a long-time Project school in Brooklyn, before joining the TCRWP. Katie is co-author of two units for fifth graders: Tackling Complexity: Moving Up Levels of Nonfiction and Literary Essay: Opening Texts and Seeing More.

Elizabeth Franco

Franco, Elizabeth

Elizabeth Franco, Senior Research Associate, was a teacher at PS 58 in Brooklyn before joining the Project. She is co-author of multiple titles in the reading and writing Units of Study series, among these, persuasive writing units for grades K, 1 and 2, and a variety of reading units including Super Powers: Reading with Print Strategies and Sight Word Power, Building Good Reading Habits, and, most recently, Word Detectives: Strategies for Using High-Frequency Words and for Decoding, Grade 1.

Marjorie Martinelli

Martinelli, Marjorie

Marjorie Martinelli, Senior Research Associate and Co-Director of Reading Rescue, has led many leadership and literacy coach groups for the TCRWP. She is co-author of Crafting True Stories, a unit of study for third grade writers, of Becoming Avid Readers, a unit of study for Kindergarten readers, of the blog, Chartchums, and of two books, Smarter Charts and Smarter Charts for Math, Science & Social Studies.

Laura Rincon

Rincon, Laura

Laura Rincon, Senior Specialist of Special Projects, supports knowledge management systems, technological innovations, and professional development at the Project. Before enrolling in the Literacy Specialist program at TC, she spent a decade teaching high school English in Chicago and then training teachers in New York City. She is passionate about coaching educators, designing rigorous curricula, and using technology to help others do their jobs even better.

Janet Steinberg

Steinberg, Janet

Janet Steinberg, Senior Research and Data Manager for the TCRWP, was a literacy coach in the Bronx, NY before joining the Project. Janet has special expertise in standards based instruction and analyzing student achievement data, which she brings to her work in New York City and across the country. She is a coauthor of Reading History: The American Revolution.
